I liked this game back in 1989 when i played it on the original gameboy. Now there have been soo many variants of this game it's mind boggling.

I usually go in depth into each category with my game reviews, but this submission does not deserve one. I look at this game as an exact carbon copy of Tetris and it infringes on copyright.

I would BLAM this if it was still under review.

This is more of an interactive flash, than a game. You should somehow make it so you can race the vehicles or do drive by's.....SOMETHING. I lost 2 minutes of my life that i will never get back.

Mr Fox

Graphics: Very well drawn 1930's feel. You should definately add more of the old reel animation film scars to the gameplay to make it seem like it's a real film being played and also include the ticker holes on the side. One thing that stood out was that some things were crisply drawn and some were filtered and looked "softened". 1930's cartoon's were all hand drawn, and the characters would stand out because of their "crispness"...I would make everything crisp and no softened filtering.

Sound: I like the soundtrack. I would like to see some more sound effects included. You should definately try to sample effects from Betty Boop movies/DVD.

Inteactivity: This is the only apparently flawed area of the game. The jump feature needs to be more responsiveness, and he should be able to fall back to the ground more promptly as to attack the logs. He dies to easily because of the lag of the jump, and it's abit jittery.

Style: Classic Side Scroller. I would like to see this expanded into more levels and perhaps make it an 800 x 800 box......or whatever you want...just a bigger screen area.

Violence: Follows 1930's cartoon idea. I would like to see better animation from the characters, they just pop off screen....take some more time to develop "death" sequences for the enemies.

Humor: Not alot of humor, again go back into more elaborate death sequences and more sound effects to boost this score.

Overall: This is a very good side scroller with a vintage feel. You should definately redraw some of the characters and add more animations to smooth gameplay out. Fix the jump timing, and possibly add an attack feature....possibly a life meter instead of just lives....pause menu..etc etc... Vote: 5(w00t)

thanks for your review,
i'm going to be taking all criticisms, good and bad, on board from everyone and make the next game better. i'm still a newbie to AS, so bare with me.

Very Good

Graphics: Backgrounds could have used some animations. Player and Enemy ships were well drawn/tweened.

Sound: Need to TURN the flash's volume. I had to turn my speakers down all the way and it was still loud.

Interactivity: Controls were solid and responsive.

Style: Classic Asteroids/Space shooter action game.

Violence: Nothing from the ordinary.

Overall: A user in-game menu/interface could be added, as well as powerups from defeating bosses are in order. A storyline could be added to break up the battles. Perhaps you could make it so the enemies give you cash and you could buy powerups for the ship....This is a solid foundation, with some added features....it will become a great game.

Overhaul Needed

Graphics: Simple and basic, damage to helicopter was nice. As a "game" i would expect more time and effort put into the graghics since the game is so basic.

Sound: Background noises would have been nice. Basic noises.

Interactivity: Helicopter handled like a helicopter from the 8 bit NES.

Style: Nothing New.

Violence: Puffs of smoke...

Humor: None, after awhile i laughed that i was doing the same thing over and over without enjoying myself

Overall: Compared to other Newgrounds submissions, this is by far below the bar. You need to give this game a MAJOR overhaul, add dynamics to the controls (perhaps map the controls to the control keys) It took too long to acquire money and the level needs to be expanded.

exfuga responds:

no, it's actually not 'simple' at all, notice how the gameplay is choppy, that's because your processor can't handle the amount of actions running. This is the most obselete review i can find. Yet, for some reason I am taking the time to respond to it.

Nice Remake

This is a remake of Michael Riedel's "Brix", a game that debuted in 1992 under Moby Games Software. Granted this game is still active and sharewared...im not sure if you can "rework" the game and keep all of the same concepts....is this not copyright infringement?

Other than that, this game was coded well and the graphics are beautifully drawn.

Ballon Duel EX

Graphics: Smooth Textures. Great Anime style. Customizing your characters colors, clothing, and weapons are phenominal. It reminds me of some of the Sim Date/Hentai graphics (in a good way)This is some of the best quality graphics to enter newgrounds in awhile.

Sound: Again, Totally customizable. You can use your own music to play to, which is a definate plus in my book. Sound effects kept to a minumum, but still quality sound effects, even the vintage ballon fight samples were included!

Interactivity: Very fluid and responsive. Weapons are accurate and diverse. Use of Battery meter adds to strategy. TONS of different options to diversify your character to customize and make it more powerful.

Style: Sticks to it's roots of Ballon Fight, popping rival's balloon. Money/Upgrade system adds to replay value. Ranking system makes it a fully well rounded game.

Violence: While this is not a blood bath of a game, it still has some interesting violence. The original fish is still there, but with updated graphics and animations. Use of weapons and defensive weapons are phenominal.

Humor: If you are into campy humor, the store owners have some funny things to say. The fish is pretty funny to watch as well.

Overall: The only option i would want to add to this game is internet multiplayer, and you have yourself a solid game that i would pay for to play online! This game has excellent replay value stemming from it's various pro's. I usually run into con's but this game is flawless. Let me know when this game goes internet multiplayer! I would even go as far as to contact Nintendo for their Gameboy Advance division and get this game ported onto cartridge! I would buy it!

Simpsons?

Considering there are plenty of simpsons sound boards that have come and gone....I look at sound boards these days to serve a specific purpose.

For example, you can cater the soundboard so they have clips that can work on prank phone calls...which is mainly what attracts me to a soundboard.

The Arnold sound board was perfect for prank phone calls. Any sound board should be modeled after that.

The Graphics were mediocre, You could have made the buttons with more of a presentation, considering they are the only "animation" in this flash, if you consider boxes that light up animation...

Overall, this was a basic soundboard... revamp it and get a better score from me.

Needs Improvement

From most of the time based strategy games I have played, this is a good game from a beginners standpoint. The game needs major development in more areas though, and this definately needs to be a free game to begin with. You could go out and spend $20 on Command and Conquer.

Graphics - The graphics were drawn well, as well as the animation [quirky at most times] was interesting. Perhaps some voice talent for the characters would give people some laughs, as their drawings were pretty comical.

Sound - Very minimal sound, the background sound became annoying after...oohh...a minute. Perhaps changing up the music when the gameplay gets more frantic or laxed...depending on the situation..or change it by denomination...catholics get their music, communists get the ol'commie russian sound.

Interactivity - This is another aspect of the game that needs to be enhanced. I would make this more of a real time strategy, to speed things up. Making weapons takes little time, while making a jet fighter takes longer...etc..

Style - Eh, we've seen this type of game before. It dosent break any grounds...but it's good for what it is, and since it's not backed by some major corporation..we can't hold it on some pedistal.

Violence - Again, I see some comedic strains in the game....perhaps when a missile hits a building you could see flaming corpses falling out, or bloody explosions..etc.. This game needs more graphic violence....dosent World Domination mean death and destruction??

Humor - Aside from the comedic drawings of the dictators...and that little spy guy...not a whole lot.

Overall - MORE development. This game needs to be revamped with the criteria i mentioned, and perhaps it could be a marketable game.

WD2?!??!!??!

Moderate Fighter

Graphics: This game harbors some interesting details of the background that makes the fighters stand out more prominently.

Sound: The same aggressive electronic music is overused. It could have had some more variety.

Interactivity: Even though this game is very simple, the game is all about timing. With only one attack button, the game is not about combos, but timing and luck. If there was more control with punches and kicks, this game would have been much more of a attention grabber. Storyline needs more development. Upgrade feature needs more development.

This game could be a masterpiece with a much needed update.
