9/10
Graphics:9: Flawless use of sprites. I enjoyed the the cross use of different platform games (megaman, castlevania, etc). Since this game has a very large amount of vintage gaming graphics, I had to detract 1 point for not using nintendo fonts for the scores that appear above the enemies heads....that seemed to be the only factor that made it seem apart from an actual nintendo game...well that and the sound wasnt true 8 bit..but i can live with that.
Sound:8: Great sound use, and sound effects were synched up perfectly with the gameplay. I detracted 2 points for not using actual 8 bit soundtrack. I wanted it to feel like i was really playing a nintendo game...
Interactivity:8: Very solid gameplay, although sometimes the special attacks would be very delayed or sometimes not trigger when the key was pressed. 2 points detracted for the special move lag.
Style:9: Vintage gaming at it's best. Sprites were great, and i sensed you made new sprites and animations...great technique. 1 point was detracted for not being able to store energy cubes for further use.... I think being able to store the energy, stamina, and special gauge cubes would have been a good option.
Violence:8: Kicking off the heads was great. I would have liked to see more varied death sequences for the enemies...2 point deduction.
Humor:8: Boss dialogue was funny hehe, but not funny haha.. 2 point deduction.
Overall:9: This game was near flawless, make the soundtrack 8 bit and add some more varied death animations...and you'll get a 10 from me....
[ i make 8 bit soundtracks if you're interested in contacting me ]
